Sarawak Day 2026

22 July is celebrated as Sarawak Day in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. This day commemorate the date in 1963 when Sarawak gained self-government from the British.

Let us pray for this beautiful land:

1. Thanksgiving for God’s Faithfulness

  • Give thanks for God’s grace over Sarawak throughout its history.
  • Thank God for the peace, diversity, and rich cultures of Sarawak’s many ethnic communities.
  • Praise God for His provision through the state’s natural resources, agriculture, and the hard work of its people.

2. Prayer for Government and Leaders

Pray for:

  • The Premier of Sarawak and the State Cabinet.
  • Members of the State Legislative Assembly.
  • Local councils and civil servants.

Ask God to grant them:

  • Humility
  • Justice
  • Compassion for all people

3. Unity Among the People

Pray that:

  • The many ethnic groups (Iban, Bidayuh, Kelabit, Melanau, Malay, Chinese, Indian, and others) will continue to live in harmony.
  • Religious communities will respect one another.
  • Prejudice, racism, and division will be overcome by love and mutual understanding.

4. Justice for the Vulnerable

Pray for:

  • Rural and remote communities.
  • Families struggling with poverty.
  • The elderly, children, and persons with disabilities.

Ask God to raise up leaders and churches that defend the vulnerable and work for justice.

5. Economic Stewardship

Pray that:

  • Economic growth benefits all Sarawakians.
  • Employment opportunities increase, especially for young adults.
  • Businesses operate honestly and ethically.
  • Corruption and exploitation are rejected.

Pray for those working in:

  • Oil and gas
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Healthcare
  • Tourism
  • Small businesses

6. Care for God’s Creation

Pray that:

  • Sarawak’s rainforests, rivers, and wildlife will be protected.
  • Development will balance economic progress with environmental responsibility.
  • Communities will care wisely for God’s creation.

7. Young People

Pray for children and youth:

  • To grow in wisdom and godly character.
  • To resist harmful influences.
  • To discover God’s calling.
  • To become servant leaders for Sarawak.

Pray also for schools, universities, teachers, and parents.

8. The Church in Sarawak

Pray that every church:

  • Remains faithful to the Gospel.
  • Makes disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Serves the poor and marginalized.
  • Demonstrates Christ’s love through word and deed.
  • Works together across denominations in unity.

Pray especially for the ministries of the church in Sarawak:

  • Pastors
  • Lay leaders
  • Local churches
  • Children’s, youth, women’s, and men’s ministries
  • Missions and community outreach

9. Peace and Hope

Pray that Sarawak will be known not only for its natural beauty but also as a place where:

  • Peace prevails.
  • Justice flourishes.
